The Gharri community of North America conference was concluded on May 28, 2007.  Hundreds of Gharri people and invited guests, including the former MP Mohamud Haji Hassan Gababa, two well respected former Gharri freedom fighters and elders Mr. Abdulahi and Abdulqadir H. Hassan, Current Mandera Central MP Honorable Mr. Bellow Kerow, and members of Somaliland Isaaq community representative Mr. Hussein Afey.

Also, over 75 business owners and community members came from 11 States including Chicago, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio, Seattle, California, Atlanta, and participated in the Gharri community of North America annual conference. They stated that they were so happy and elated upon witnessing such a high-class worldly conference in the beautiful city of Chicago, ILL. . In addition, young Gharri women groups attended and participated in the conference. They said that they are not only so happy to be parts of this great and high class Gharri community conference, but having participating in it and letting our voice heard make it so special,

Moyale

 On May 26, 2007, the Oromo People’s Democratic Organization’s representatives and the Ethiopian Somali Region citizens clashed at the Thathesa, Moyale district over who should conduct the census and the head of the OPDO’s team sustained serious injuries.

 According to information received from Moyale, Western Gharri Region The Oromo people’s Democratic organization’s team claimed to have permission from the Somali Region president Mr. Lugbur for them to carry out census on behalf of the Federal government. However, the Gharri and the Gabra people began accusing the Oromos of hiding under the name of Federal government in order to grab their land.

They said that they will not accept any count unless the Oromo and the Somali people begin counting or conducting the census count at the same time.
