Gharri Regions News Update

Moyale: Gastroenteritis has claimed seven lives in a mater of twenty-four hours and one hundred nineteen others are in critical condition. According to information received from Moyale, Gharri Region, it is believed that the cause of this round of Gastroenteritis was caused by consumption of infected unsanitary floodwater. Our reporter stated that the recent unusually heavy rain floodwater washed out contaminated open underground cesspools or septic tanks into streams.

Mr. Abdinur M. Hassan has been sworned in as member of the Moyale City Council cabinets. Also, Justice Sheikh Ibrahim Marinda has been dismissed and replaced with Justice Sheikh Abdi Hassan Mursal.

Also, tensions are still very high between the Gharri and the OPDO region supported neighbors. The OPDO region's administrators do not want peaceful co existence between their herding communities and its neighbors, because, they do not want the public to focus on them for lacks of development, health care, roads and schools for their children. So, what the OPDO's president, Abandula Gamada wants is to incite war between neighbors and if they fall for it, then he assures himself to stay in power longer, otherwise, he would lose big time the second time around for next national election.

He knows that causing a trouble between the Gharri and its neighbors would not be beneficial for the Boranas or Gharris as well. In the past few years during drought season, the Gharri and Boranas have shared all available natural resources without any official’s involvement. Because, they know what belongs to whom, and they get along just fine. But, OPDO’s officials feels unwanted and began putting their noses into herders affairs to reinvent themselves as leaders. They already are responsible for the “Arero Massacre of 2000”. The OPDO’s administration or regime should know better and learn from their past mistakes. Because, killing innocent women, children and defenseless elderlies have not earned them an inches of land.

We believe that aiding innocent herders to settle on our land is the same as waging war on our people and we take it very seriously. So, we ask the OPDO region state administrators to abandon their sinful dreams of expansionism, and remove those nomads from Raaro immediately without delay.

Victory To The Gharri People, and viva Gharri.
