Central Gharri Region News Update Wednesday July 16, 2008 by Gur Gharri GSG News  contributor:

The Gharri and Murale have reached a tentative agreement to alt current anti peace campaign between two communities. It was said that the Murale agreed to recognize and respect their common border. Both parties agreed to allow each other’s herds and herders to have access to water and grazing land during drought seasons.

 Mid Western Gharri region

In the past 30 days, the Degody and Murale have waged an ultimate silent war simultaneously and forcefully settled in the heart of the Gharri land. According to information received from Mandera, Gharri district, while Murale was engaging in a show of force and drilling at Allango, and eyeing Sotowa Oro, the Degody was also, engaged in digging two water dams and forcefully settling near Takaba. It was said that a large number of Degody crossed Dawa River from Ethiopia and settled at about 7 kilometers northeast of Takaba. They have been asked to vacate but, still they have not vacated yet.

Degody have long held dream of taking as much land from the Gharri and connecting the Ethiopian Degody with the Wajir, Kenyan Degody clansmen. So, now since El Wak District Seat has fallen into their hand, they felt that the time has come and they began moving in from Wajir, Kenya and from Dolo, Ethiopia by cutting through mid western Gharri land from Malka Meri through Takaba constituency. So, time will tell in regard to how long this exodus of land grabbing will last and how long it takes before the Gharri people wake up and defend what is theirs. So, we will inform as the latest information becomes available.
